Legally Blonde is a musical with music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin and book by Heather Hach. The story is based on the novel Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown and the film of the same name. This amateur production which was put on by Almost Famous Theatre Company which is a theatre company run by the students of Salford University has been playing at their New Adelphi theatre in the University.
As the curtain lifted, the energy blew me away with bubbly, energetic characters; Pilar played by Evanna Maxted, Margot player by Hannah Saks and Serena played by Abbie King, bright lighting and a booming live band.
Elle Woods, who was played excellently by Jess Porter, despite stumbling over a few lines, had a strong, dominant character, who owed the stage with her superb vocals.
Vivienne Kensington, played magnificently by Jessica Mcadam, was confident and committed when playing her feisty character and without a doubt her vocals were admirably natural and powerful, along with Professor Callaghan played by Oliver Willett.
This production had comedic characters such as Kyle played by Thomas Bowen, Nikos played by Ross Bickerdike and Carlos played by Ewan Sowerby with more exaggerated characters played by actors, who are clearly passionate and committed. The set was simplistic and needed to be up to the same standard as the rest of the production. In addition, I believe that the set changes were a bit sloppy and ruined a few key moments as we were distracted by people walking and taking set off. However, the simple changes in set did indicate a different location and time.
Each character's costume reflected aspects of their personality making each person unique. Elle Woods pink and vibrant wardrobe and Paulette Bonafonte’s (who was played remarkably by Charlotte Dale) hipster “vibe” are examples of this. Moreover, the costume changes were fast, smooth and on time.

Overall, I am looking forward to their next show and hoping that the cast bring the same energy and professionalism they did that night.
