Super Hero action, thrills and drama bursted into Manchester Arena as Marvel Universe LIVE! returned with a brand new show. Produced by Feld Entertainment all the Marvel fans are in treat to see Spider-Man, The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy join forces with Doctor Strange, master of the mystic arts, in a race against time to recover the Wand of Watoomb before it falls into Loki’s hands. The show tells the story of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers teaming up to help Doctor Strange retrieve the Wand of Watoomb from Yondu. Loki has hired Nebula to get the Wand for him. As Guardians of the Galaxy are also after Nebula, the two teams meet in Asgard before uniting and travel to stop Loki and Nebula from ending the world with the wand.
I have never seen such an awesome and thrilling show in my life! Walking into the Manchester Arena I was expecting few Marvel characters jumping around the stage but I was gobsmacked by how cleverly the show was put together. I love how the show was a mix of character role-play, fake fighting, stunt acts and aerial acts as it created a great balance between each scene and added a bit more variety in the show so that we're not just watching the same thing for an hour and a half.
Groot in 'Marvel Universe Live!'
Each character was incredible and looked pretty much exactly like the original comic/film character making the whole experience extremely realistic! The fight and superpower sequences choreographed by David Doersch were just extraordinary as everything was literally perfect and seemed unbelievably real.
The mention must go to the artist playing Groot (Unfortunately the names of the artists aren't linked to the character names however it was certainly one of the 20+ artists) as he/she had to do the whole show on stilts and I was astounded by how fast the artist could run or how high he/she could jump, and also let's be honest that Groot's only line throughout the show "I am Groot" was a show stealer!
As well as the various fight & superpower sequences, the motorbike stunt act was the wow-factor of the night! The precision and timing of this act was just breathtaking as even a one tiny mistake could end up badly. With all the audience members sitting on the edge of their seats, 7 motorbikes performed extremely dangerous stunts across the arena floor all in a very tight space so the timing was literally everything. The leading artist of this acts playing the characters of Spiderman, Captain America and Black Widow were simply spectacular and I loved every second of this act.
The space was used very well with various pieces of set moving up and down from above and across the stage floor. The highlight was definitely the absolutely huge back wall with projections being projected onto it. Josh Zangen made sure that his super high-quality projections have really taken us to China, Antarctic and beyond. The special effects for this show were just stunning and phenomenal... I am genuinely speechless at how great they were!
