Michael starring Ben is "The UK’s Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute" show. Ben Bowman is embarking on a UK tour with more than 40 dates including a show at the London Palladium, celebrating the life and work of arguably one of the most popular and influential entertainers in the world; Michael Jackson.
I was actually shocked seeing how many people attended the event considering that it came to Manchester a day after the documentary "Leaving Neverland" (which reveals some shocking information about Jackson) was released. It was clear to see that everyone who came were huge fans of Michael and it was very nice seeing peoples passion's about Michael especially those who dressed up like him. They all clearly had a good time as there were lots of singing and dancing in the audience that night.
When walking into the auditorium, the first thing everyone noticed was the massive backdrop with the show's logo on it as well as the big stage with a small 4-piece band set up on it. As the show started, we were introduced to Ben Bowman who portrayed Michael. Bowman was fantastic and looked unbelievably close to Michael. His singing was also very close to Michael's voice however his dancing wasn't as good. Bowman was joined on stage by 3 dancers who I cannot mention as we weren't given their names. Their names were probably in the program however due to no cash machine at the Bridgewater Hall (the closest one was 10 minute walk from the venue according to a staff member) and no option to pay with card I couldn't get that. These 3 young dancers were fabulous and did an amazing job considering their very quick changes and complicated choreography. The band did an amazing job at recreating the music of Michael live with only 4 instruments and one female backing singer.
The show definitely didn't suit the venue as Bridgewater Hall is way too big for this show and that's why I think most of the atmosphere was lost. I don't know why but I've left the venue feeling that the show wasn't the best tribute I've seen. I felt like it was an average tribute act with fancy lighting that you see in resorts/hotels which is why
