In Lotte Wakeham’s first season as Artistic Director, the Octagon Theatre Bolton are thrilled to announce a season of popular, bold and adventurous productions in venues across Bolton. The Octagon’s season of theatre ‘out and about’ continues this autumn as construction of the multi-million pound redevelopment of the town centre building continues. In the final months ahead of the new building opening in spring 2020 the theatre will be producing shows in Bolton Library Theatre and the University of Bolton Stadium with other events at the theatre’s base in the Market Place shopping centre.

Carrot Productions team up with Aardman Animations for Wallace & Gromit's Musical Marvels UK tour in Spring 2019
The 38 date tour will feature brand new music to accompany Musical Marvels, which was first screened at the BBC Proms in 2012, along with interactive escapades and enthusiastic entertainment by presenter Matthew Sharp and the Picture House Orchestra. This is a fantastic opportunity for young audiences to experience live classical music for the first time, in an accessible, fun way. Parents will also enjoy reliving their youth, with a screening in the second half of the all-time classic Aardman animation, The Wrong Trousers, again with live orchestral accompaniment – a world first.
Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester is to stage the Northern Premiere of The Exonerated - a gripping death row drama that is to be reimagined in the style of a television true crime documentary. Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen’s play The Exonerated, directed by Hope Mill Artistic Director and co-founder Joseph Houston, will play at the award-winning fringe theatre from Thursday 6 June to Sunday 16 June 2019.

Multi-award-winning writer Tanika Gupta has reimagined her 2003 adaptation of HOBSON’S CHOICE for the Exchange. In this sharp and witty retelling of Harold Brighouse’s classic take on family loyalty, we meet Hari Hobson, played by Tony Jayawardena (Ackley Bridge), who has fled Uganda to make a new life for his family in Manchester’s ever-changing Northern Quarter of the 1980s.

When it Breaks it Burns – produced by coletivA ocupação and presented by Contact and Transform - tells the extraordinary true story of the high school occupations of 2015 and 2016 in Brazil – where students barricaded themselves inside schools for two to three months to protest against cuts in spending. Fifteen of the participating students have created and present this interactive production fusing live music, dance and performance to show how their lives were changed forever through their remarkable feat of student activism.
Award-winning choreographer and performer Seeta Patel has re-imagined the iconic ballet, ‘The Rite of Spring’ in the powerful classical Indian dance style, Bharatanatyam. With a cast of six outstanding performers, the show comes to The Lowry on Mon 13 May as part of a UK tour.
