"Walking with dinosaurs - The arena spectacular" is a $20 million production which has been seen by over 9 million people in more than 250 cities around the world. The show takes you on a fabulous journey through 3 different eras; Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous. The production features new, state of the art technology, making this the biggest dinosaur show in the world.
At the beginning of the show we were introduced to the character of Huxley The Palaeontologist played by Michaela Strachan. The character of Huxley is almost like a narrator, educating the audience on each Dinosaur species giving very interesting facts and figures. Strachan has a very clear diction making it easy for even the little ones to understand. I was very drawn to Strachan as she performed the role of Huxley with a lot of passion and educated me on lots of things I didn't even know about. Strachan did an incredible job of taking us on a journey with her.
Huxley The Palaeontologist (Michaela Strachan) with the baby T-REX
This production features 18 life-size creatures, including the Stegosaurus, Raptors and of course the star of the show the terrifying Tyrannosaurus-rex and it takes a team of 3 people to operate just 1 dinosaur. It was beautiful seeing how Sonny Tilders (Creature designer) brought these creatures back to life with his fantastic designs. For a moment I forgot that it is just a show and I was taken into a real Jurassic world because I was mesmerized by this production. I saw dinosaurs fighting, hunting, eating and even pooping. The wonderful sound design by Peter Hylenski made it even more realistic because every single dinosaur had a different roar. The breath-taking projections and the set designed by Peter England made each era very clear.
